Parenting Troubled Teens
If your teen is struggling with issues such as Depression, Substance Abuse, Authority Problems, ADHD/ADD, School Problems, Bipolar Issues, etc., perhaps some form of intervention is necessary.
However, knowing what level of intervention is best can sometimes be difficult to determine. We will leave that decision to you, but will openly provide our opinion.
Unless your troubled teen is a danger to him/herself, to others, or to property, we do not recommend placing him/her in a residential program prior to extensive intervention at home. Going through the rigors of parenting a troubled teen may enable you to save him/her without the emotional and financial costs of residential care.
But if residential care is eventually deemed necessary you will go into the process with your eyes wide open, having educated yourself on the reality of both exceptional, and critically substandard programs. You will have a therapist who can assist you throughout the process. And, if you choose, you will be armed with the parenting resources, as well as the industry savvy that Michael Behning (this site's founder) can offer.
As you research the resources of this site, note that you will continually have the opportunity to enroll in Behning's Strong Model workshops.
